Dearest Beloved Fathers, Brethren and Sisters,

Christos voskrese!

With this joyous greeting we salute each other on the radiant day of Christ’s Resurrection and in the days that follow. The Holy Orthodox Church begins and ends Divine Liturgy on Sundays and even on weekdays with this hymn: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life”, confirming Christ’s everlasting promise to redeem mankind.

The Savior, Who came into this world, calls Himself the Life, and He promises Eternal Life with God to all His followers, saying: “I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). This solemn promise gives us renewed strength to exclaim: “For meet it is that the heavens should rejoice, and that the earth should be glad, and that the whole world, both visible and invisible, should keep the Feast. For Christ is risen, the everlasting joy!”

The joy we receive from the Resurrection of our Savior is something for which the Holy Orthodox Church prepares us during the days of Great Lent and encourages us to preserve and carry within us.

The Apostles of Christ were so of filled with this joy that neither deprivation, nor persecution, nor even death, would stop them from preaching the Gospel and proclaiming Christ’s Resurrection to the World, for He Himself said: ”You will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you” (John 16:22).

The Diocesan Church calls us today to be like the Apostles and entrusts us with the sacred duty to preserve this paschal joy and make it a center of our spiritual life. As partakers of the Eucharist during Divine Liturgy throughout the year, this paschal mystery is again renewed in us.

Dearest Beloved Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, let us live in hope and anticipation of the joy of Eternal Life in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Christ is risen!

With love in the risen Christ,           ( S )   + Metropolitan JOSEPH
