Dearly Beloved, Christ is Risen!

It's Pascha! The Resurrection of Christ! Pascha of the Lord—2019! Not just one of the feasts, but the Feast of feasts and the Celebration of celebrations. A Great Day; Created by the Lord! Let's rejoice and be glad in it!

This is also the occasion to congratulate all of you, gathered as one, on this day. “For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20) - said the Lord Jesus Christ. Again He tells us, “if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, whatever it may be, it shall be done for them by My Father in Heaven” (Matt. 18:19). And what can be our ask today, except: May God bless our Diocese and us—assembled together to celebrate Pascha, to overcome evil and death with the Lord’s grace, and to have abundant life in His name in the present age, and in the age to come.

So, finding ourselves in our temple today, let us celebrate like Orthodox Christians. Although we are scattered all over the world, let us celebrate like one nation. Don’t wonder at these words! We, the Orthodox Christians, are on all continents. As the Bishop of the Bulgarian Eastern-Orthodox Diocese of the United States, Canada and Australia, I assure you that at every hour of the Paschal day, we congratulate ourselves in our churches and homes with the miraculous: “Christ is Risen!” We start from Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia to Jerusalem, from Europe and Bulgaria to New York, Orlando, Boston, Syracuse, Dearborn, Akron and Hudson; from Chicago and Indianapolis to Los Angeles and Santa Rosa, then further out to Alaska and Antarctica.

This gives us joy that nourishes our self-esteem. Cohabitation with the other nations of the world assures us that we are in many ways like them. Because our orthodox faith makes us practical people, positive in our worldview, prayerful in thought, purposeful, open-minded, cultured, worthy citizens of the universe and the globe. Moreover, none of this restricts us from looking toward the future permanent city in which, according to the prayers of St. Constantine-Kiril Philosopher, in good time, as Orthodox Christians, we will stand on the right side of the Risen Christ and Lord.

Blessed is our Orthodox faith, brought to us by the Only begotten Son of God the Father, who for us and for our salvation descended from heaven, took human flesh, lived among us, suffered on the cross to death, was buried, and on the third day, rose from the dead to save us.

This faith was taught to us by our grandfathers and our grandmothers, our fathers and our mothers. This is how our spiritual mother—the Holy Orthodox Church—is continually advising us to always believe in God and trust in Him.

"Consider the ancient generations and see", encourages us Jesus the son of Sirach, "Whoever trusted in the Lord, and was put to shame? Or whoever persevered in the fear of the Lord and was forsaken? Or whoever called upon Him and was overlooked?" (Sirach 2:10).

So we celebrate the Day of Resurrection because the Lord is compassionate and merciful, forgiving sins, and saving in times of tribulation (Sirach 2:11). "For as His majesty is, so is His mercy," (Sirach 2:18) we read in the Holy Bible. This is why all Orthodox Christians are singing today: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!"

Therefore, beloved, rejoice in the Pascha of the Lord, embrace one another, forgive one another, and congratulate one another with a shining smile: Christ Is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!

Възлюбени, Христос воскресе!

Великден е! Възкресение Христово! Пасха Господня—2019! Не един от празниците, а Празник на празниците и Тържество на тържествата. Ден велик! Сътворен от Господа! Да се зарадваме и развеселим в него!

Това е и повода да поздравя всички ви, събрани ведно на този ден. “Защото, дето са двама или трима събрани в Мое име, там съм Аз посред тях”(Мат. 18:20) - казва Господ Иисус Христос. Пак ни казва, “че, ако двама от вас се съгласят на земята да попросят нещо, каквото и да било, ще им бъде дадено от Моя Отец небесен”(19). А каква може да бъде просбата ни днес, освен: Да благослови Бог нашата Епархия и нас - събрани заедно да отпразнуваме Великдена, с Господа да побеждаваме злото и смъртта и да пребъдваме в изобилен живот в Негово име както в настоящия, така и в бъдещия век.

Така че, намирайки се в храма ни днес, празнувайте православно, макар да сме  пръснати по целия свят - държавно. Не се чудете на това! Ние, православните християни сме по всички континенти. Като владика на Българската източно-православна епархия в САЩ, Канада и Австралия ви уверявам, че на всеки час от Великденското денонощие, ние се поздравяваме в нашите църкви и домове с чудното:  “Христос възкресе!” Започваме от Мелбърн и Аделайда в Австралия, до Иерусалим, от Европа и България до Ню Йорк, Орландо, Бостън, Сиракуз, Диърборн, Акрон и Хъдсън, от Чикаго и Индианаполис до Лос Анжелес и Санта Роза, още по-нататък до Аляска и Антарктида.

Това ни дава радост, която подхранва нашето самочувствие. Съжителството пък с другите народи по света ни уверява, че в много неща сме  като тях. Защото православната ни вяра ни прави хора делови, слънчеви в мирогледа, богоозарени в мислите, целеустремени, широкоустроени, висококултурни, достойни граждани на вселената и на земното кълбо. Нещо повече, това не ни ограничава да търсим и бъдещия постоянен град, в който, по молитвите на св. Кирил Славянобългарски, при благовремие, като православни християни, ще застанем от дясната страна на Възкръсналия Христос Господ.

Благословена е православната ни вяра, донесена ни от Единородния Син на Бога Отца, Който заради нас и нашето спасение слезе от небесата, прие човешка плът, живя сред нас, страда на кръста до смърт, бе погребан и на третия ден възкръсна от мъртвите, за да ни спаси.

На тази права вяра ни научиха нашите деди и баби, нашите бащи и майки. Така ни съветва постоянно и духовната ни майка Светата православна църква - винаги да вярваме в Бога и Нему да се уповаваме.

“Погледнете древните родове и вижте”, ни насърчава Сираховият син Иисус, “Кой е вярвал Господу, и е бил посрамен? или кой е пребъдвал в страха Му, и е бил оставен? или кой е викал към Него, и Той го е презрял?”(2:10).

Затова празнуваме Господния възкресен ден, защото Господ е състрадателен и милостив, прощава грехове и спасява във време на скръб (11). “Каквото е величието Му, такава е и милостта Му”, четем в светата Библия. Затуй навсякъде православните християни пеят днес: “Христос възкръсна от мъртвите, със смърт смъртта разруши и на всички в гробовете, живот подари.”

Прочее, възлюбени, да се възрадваме на Великден, един друг да се прегърнем, да се опростим и с усмивка на уста да поздравим: Христос воскресе! Воистину воскресе!
