"The angel said unto the shepherds: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all  people; For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10-11).

Dearly Beloved,

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

This is what we are celebrating today—the Birth in the flesh of the Мessiah, the Anointed One.

This Jesus Christ the Lord is the One Who brings healing and peace as we heard from the mouth of St. Prophet Isaiah. This is unique “great joy” which we, the Christians, celebrate this day!

We rejoice because, for us, God sent His only begotten Son into the world to restore us to an unending existence, which is eternal life. However, during this holy season of the Church when Christians celebrate and participate in the Birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we need to be aware that we are surrounded by the so-called “peace of the world”, distracting us and distancing us from the Peace of Christ. We must sustain our belief in the reality of the eternal existence of our human soul and the gift of salvation. We must be on guard not to be dazzled by brilliant, flashing, artificial lights of the world and thus lose sight of the radiant true light of Christ Who illumines all.

"For this day, as St. John the Golden-Mouth says, the ancient slavery is ended, the devil is confounded, the demons take to flight, the power of death is broken, paradise is unlocked, the curse is taken away, sin is removed from us, error driven out and the truth has been brought back…" (Homily on Christmas Day, par. 27).

Dearly Beloved, as we gather in praise of the All Holy Trinity, let our rejoicing be sober and sincere; let us rejoice not in food and drink and all which is here today and gone tomorrow, but let us prepare ourselves to receive the Pure Blood and Holy Body of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us celebrate this day knowing that God is love, that we are His children and that after this short visit on earth, as was that of the only begotten Son, we too shall rejoice in Him, living in the light of His presence.

Today we stand with angels and shepherds at the manager; tomorrow we shall kneel before Him in the eternal Kingdom which He has prepared from all time for us.

Until then, let us cry out: Christ is born! Glorify Him!

Have a blessed and prosperous New 2020 Year!

With love in the born Christ Child,

   + Metropolitan JOSEPH
